Spoken Word Summit

UGH! I’m behind on my posts, partially because I’ve been trying to do too much in too little time. I’ve got words and images from last week’s open mic with the Rockstar Storytellers, words about a couple of open mics I hit accidentally when going to shows, and so much more. We’ll catch up tomorrow, but I wanted to remind you about the Spoken Word Summit THIS COMING THURSDAY.

Here’s the invite, from hosts Matthew Rucker and Kyle “El Guante” Myhre. Show up! I hope to see you there!

We just wanted to remind you about the spoken word summit/meeting/forum/round table discussion this Thursday.

We have many important and exciting things to discuss, and we are anxious to hear suggestions, thoughts and feedback from organizations, poets, and our audiences. So please don’t hesitate to bring your ideas to the meeting.

Together, we can all make spoken word performances, in the Twin Cities, just as popular as theater, comedy or concerts.

Again – we will be addressing such questions as: What are our strengths? What are our weaknesses? How can we share resources and support one another more effectively? How can we cultivate the audience for spoken-word in the Twin Cities? How can we ensure that all young people who are interested in spoken-word have access to our programs? In what ways can we welcome poets from underrepresented groups into this community more effectively? How can we develop networks for cross-promotion and inter-organizational support?

We’re inviting people from every spoken-word-oriented organization and program in the Twin Cities metro area, as this can dramatically improve things for our entire community. We are also inviting literary organizations, granting organizations and local media. Interested members of the general public are also welcome to attend and offer their thoughts and feedback as well.

Please share this information with others. the more the merrier.
