Hello Minnesota slammers! My name is Julia Bemi and I’m the newly resurrected “slam master” of Iowa City, Iowa. I’ll be needing some fresh voices to fill in my feature slot for Iowa City’s one and only spokenword open-mic/slam session, THE BIG IDEA. It’ll be a paid gig with a place to stay for the night after the show. If anyone is interested in spreading their word(s) outside of Minneapolis please let me know. I feel a bit bad thanking you for that compliment, Sam. I try to pay attention to what is going on and to understand spoken word, slam, and individual performers (both for writing interesting articles, and for my own growth artistically)- when I’m a better performer myself, I’ll feel more comfortable being more vocal in my feedback to others.

Its funny, I’m not sure how I ended up here, this long after the fact. But flipping through the article I was struck by how cutting and precise your comment on each of us who made the team was. The things you pointed out simply (that I learned over the summer, perhaps none of us wanted to hear =P ) were some of the very issues we struggled (and by and large failed) to overcome for NPS. Kudos Cole.
